Assembled cabinets, also known as pre-assembled cabinets, are cabinets that come fully built and ready to install. Unlike flat-pack options, there’s no need for you (or your contractor) to spend time putting the cabinet boxes together—they arrive already constructed from the factory.
From a practical standpoint, this is all about saving time and reducing hassle. Installation is typically faster and more straightforward, which can help shorten your overall kitchen project timeline. For many homeowners, especially those not comfortable with DIY assembly, this alone makes assembled cabinets the preferred choice.
Another important benefit is build consistency. Because these cabinets are assembled in a controlled factory environment, the joints, alignment, and overall structure are usually more precise compared to on-site assembly. That often translates to better durability and a more solid feel over time.
That said, there are a couple of trade-offs to keep in mind.
- They are heavier and bulkier, which can increase shipping costs
- You’ll need to ensure proper access (doorways, stairs, etc.) for delivery
- They typically cost more upfront than ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets
Here’s how I usually guide my clients:
- Choose assembled cabinets if you want convenience, speed, and a smoother installation process
- Consider RTA cabinets if you’re working with a tighter budget and don’t mind assembly
In the U.S. market, both options are widely available, and the right choice really depends on your priorities. If you value ease and time savings, assembled cabinets are often well worth the investment—especially for full kitchen remodels where efficiency matters.
